The New Recruits is a documentary about a battalion of jet-setting business students armed with a radical plan to end global poverty: charge poor people for goods and services. It airs nationally on PBS on June 15, 2010, at 10:00 PM (check local listings).
The New Recruits takes an unflinching look at social entrepreneurship, a movement touted as the new alternative to charity–its ideals, practitioners, and realities. The result is a hilarious, evocative, edge-of-your-seat thrill ride along a road paved with good intentions.
The New Recruits is directed by Seth Kramer, Daniel A. Miller, and Jeremy Newberger, the trio behind the Sundance and PBS sensation The Linguists; and narrated by Rainn Wilson, Dwight Schrute of NBC’s hit comedy series The Office. It is funded by the PBS Foundation through a grant from the Skoll Foundation.
